In high school, Mrs. Armine Hambrick asked Linda
what she was going to study in college, and Linda replied, “Interior Decorating.” Linda is still decorating.
After first attending Auburn, Linda transferred to the University of Alabama and graduated with a major in Interior Design. With family and friends, she has been involved with different businesses on the side; namely a gas station, a carpet brokerage, a farm, a sock mill, and a used car business. She says these ventures have been interesting, but not very profitable.
Linda moved to Birmingham in 1984 and began Linda Blackwell Interior Consultants, Inc. She has specialized in hospitality design, hotels and retirement centers. Most of her work is in the southeast, although she has designed projects in Texas and California. Currently, her fun projects are in Florida, so she frequently travels there.
Linda has two sons, Ross and Kelly Kitchens. Ross works with Linda in her business and Kelly is working at WJOX sports radio in Birmingham. Linda loves her work, and that is where she spends most of her time. However, she does enjoy week-ends at home, reading, cooking, and digging in the dirt.
